I know you’ll all be delighted to hear that from 1st December our fabulous festive farm animals will be back at Meadow Grange for the Christmas period putting smiles on faces and helping to raise money this year for the Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions.

If you’ve been to see the festive farm animals before you’ll know they are simply adorable and the kids just love seeing them. Of course we are happy to welcome school visits too if you contact us with some details of when you intend to visit.

In addition to the farm animals this year, on the weekend of the 4th and 5th of December we have a very special visitor coming to see us. From 11am-3pm on both days, Father Christmas will be here greeting visitors and raising money for the Lions.

So why not pop along, to see Santa and the festive animals and pick up your Christmas tree to get yourselves properly into the festive spirit!

Christmas Tree Care Tips

Our team at Meadow Grange are always on hand to help out with advise and tips about the plants that we stock and we thought it would be a good idea to offer some top tips for looking after your Christmas Trees this year to make sure they look stunning throughout the festive period, so here goes.

  • If you’re not quite ready to bring your tree indoors then stand it outside somewhere cool and sheltered - you may want to stand it in a bucket of water;
  • When you are ready to bring your tree inside, cut a slice of at least 25mm off the bottom of the trunk to allow the tree to take up water - just like a cut flower;
  • Display your tree in a stand which has a reservoir of water - this will need checking and topping up on a daily basis as a tree can take up over a liter of water per day;
  • Adding Christmas tree food to the water will help to keep the needles fresh;
  • Trees that are in pots will also need checking and watering on a regular basis;
  • Make sure that you stand your tree in a cool place indoors and away from heat sources like fires and radiators as this will cause them to dry out much quicker.

There you have it - our top tips for a beautiful tree this Christmas, if you do have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask one of the team at Meadow Grange - we’re always ready to help.

New Developments at the Coffee Hut

So after the huge success of our Coffee Hut this year, we have made the decision to give it a little extension. Keep your eyes open for a menu of light bites; paninis, freshly made rolls, hot sausage rolls and pasties, hopefully ready for the Christmas period.

We might even be able to knock up a bacon sandwich or two and some parsnip soup to keep that December chill at bay.

Farm Shop Focus for the Festive Period

As well as delicious Kelly Bronze Turkeys, our farm shop will be stocked with a fabulous assortment of delicious delicacies this Christmas. As you know we try to focus on sourcing the best local produce for you, reducing food miles and bringing you fabulous fresh food from local growers and producers.

We will have a great assortment of different meats from the Butcher of Brogdale, fantastic cheeses and cold meats from Curd and Cure, wonderful wines, beers and fizz from Kent producers and the freshest fruit and veg around, everything you need for that perfect festive feast. Our favourite veggies for this time of year are cauliflowers, cabbages and Kale from Thanet growers

Peter’s Top Tips for Your Autumn Garden

Peter’s Top Tips for Your Autumn Garden

If you keep a regular eye on the Meadow Grange Facebook page, you’ll know that we have a proper little festive treat for our customers this year.

At a loose end over the weekend and not sure what you can do in the garden? Oh don’t worry, there’s always plenty to do to work up an appetite for that Sunday lunch - here’s a few ideas from Peter, the General Manager at Meadow Grange:

  • Make sure you clear dead stems and foliage on the perennial plants in your gardens as they can harbour diseases during the winter;
  • If your compost is ready to use then now can be a good time to spread on the soil to feed next year’s growth and it can also act as a bit of insulation for plant roots from the winter frosts;
  • Great exercise is raking up the leaves that have dropped in your garden - perfect for creating leaf mold to feed next year’s plants.

Top Google Review

Our management team at Meadow Grange read all of your reviews good or bad and we always try to take on recommendations. This was our favourite Google Review from October:

“First class array of flowers, shrubs, grasses, trees etc. that seemed healthy and nourished, so tempting to purchase.

The seasonal Halloween displays so eye catching. Enjoyed tea and cake, although windy, made the most of the dry weather. 3 hours spent here, so therapeutic. Well done to the lovely staff.”

Thank you Jill Elbourn, we’ll make sure the staff are all aware of your kind comments.
