Hello June! โ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐น
This is the perfect time of year to give your garden a shot of colour with summer flowering bedding plants. These are really great for an instant display in containers, borders and hanging flower baskets, make sure to deadhead to encourage new blooms!
Deadheading is simply removing any flowers that are drooping, dead or forming seed heads. Doing this prevents the plant setting seed, so it produces more flowers.
Here are some other jobs to keep you busy this month ๐
- Give patio containers and hanging baskets a liquid feed every 2 weeks to encourage flowering.
- Tie in new stems of climbing and rambling roses horizontally to supports
to encourage more flowers
- Give Wisteria its summer prune by cutting all the side shoots back to 20cm long, to promote flowering next spring.
- Prune back late spring or early summer shrubs such as weigela and philadelphus, after flowering, thinning out the older stems.
- Stake Tall perennials - Plants with tall brittle stems and substantial flower spikes such delphiniums, which are easily damaged by strong winds.
- Harvest lettuces โ you can snip a few leaves and more will grow.
